The wild forest reindeer ( Rangifer tarandus fennicus) is the native reindeer from Finland and western Russia. Their number in Finland is estimated to about 2500 in all Finland.
The wild forest reindeer is rare and under nature protection at the monent .
They disappear after over hunting from Finland and come back into Finland around 1960´s in Kuhmo region from Russian Carelia. Nowever days there is also in center and west Finland ( Salamanjärvi area, Sevettijärvi, …).
Reindeers are migrating from summer pasture rich in divers flora and swamps to give birth to winter pasture rich in lichens on pine hill .
